Former WBC Heavyweight Champion Samuel Peter will be in the ring for the third time in 2019 to face Tyson Fury’s cousin, Hughie Fury in July in a bid to return to elite boxing status.

After staying inactive between 2017 and 2018, Peter made a victorious comeback to the ring in February against Mexico’s Gerardo Escobar but suffered defeat to 44-year-old Mario Heredia at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, USA.

The Nigerian will hope to seal two victories this year when he faces Hughie Fury in Saudi Arabia on July 12 in a fight staged to support Amir Khan’s fight against Neeraj Goyat in Jeddah.

Before returning to the ring this year, the former “Nigerian Nightmare” said his motivation was to claim back his former status as World Champion.

“My motivation is to become the heavyweight champion of the world again. This is the beginning of the new chapter,” Peter said.

Tyson Fury’s 24-year-old cousin who has never tasted a world title equally has the same dream – becoming a champion.

“There’s only one thing on my mind, getting to the very top, winning the world title,” Fury who dropped the Lonsdale title to rather focus on a world title revealed.

Fury believes he can dispatch Peter who stunned the world in 2008 to grab the green belt with a win over Oleg Maskaev.

“I’ve got a job to do and it’ll get done. Samuel Peter is a seriously solid, dangerous veteran who can clearly punch but I relish the challenge,” he said.

In 2017, Fury lost his shot at Joseph Parker’s WBO world title but picked up the British title in his following fight – which he has dropped in a bid for a world title.

Unlike Peter, Fury will be going into the bout upbeat considering he knocked out Chris Norrad in May, barely six months after a bloody loss to Kubrat Pulev.
