NDDC Donates School Facilities To School In Akwa Ibom

NDDC DONATES CHAIRS, DESKS TO AKWA IBOM SCHOOL WHERE PUPILS STUDY ON BARE-FLOOR Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), on Wednesday, donated chairs and desks to East Itam Primary School, Nkim/ Enen Atai Itam, Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State to ameliorate the plight of the plight of pupils who hitherto studied on bare floor. Presenting the items to the school, NDDC Managing Director, Obong Nsima Ekere, said the gesture is in continuation of the commission’s efforts in boosting the quality of education in schools in the Niger Delta region. Ekere, who was represented by Engr. Akan Okon, said the NDDC has intervened by providing facilities in primary, post-primary and tertiary institutions in the region, and decried the condition of facilities in public schools in the state. “In Akwa Ibom State, the NDDC has been donating teaching and learning facilities to schools. Hostels and classroom blocks have also been constructed in many primary, secondary and tertiary institutions. Scholarships have been awarded to Niger Delta students in Nigeria and abroad. “Capacity building programmes and workshops have been organised by NDDC to boost the knowledge of students and teachers. We believe that the best insurance for our children is education, therefore this agency will do everything possible to make our children excel academically”, he stated. The NDDC MD implored the management of the school to ensure that the items are properly utilized, and promised to renovate dilapidated classroom blocks in the school. Responding after receiving the items, Acting Headmistress, Mrs. Sarah Joe Ananga, applauded NDDC for alleviating the plight of the pupils. She also lauded the agency for promising to renovate dilapidated structures in the school. Mrs. Ananga drew attention to other problems including porous security and low numerical strength of teachers. Also in attendance were staff and pupils of the school, members of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) as well as indigenes of Nkim and Enen Atai communities. By Ofonime Honesty
