Speaking on the importance of matches, Falode said “All the matches have been crucial, we are here as African Champions, our aim is to retain the title and be a strong contender for Africa at the Women’s World Cup in France 2019. “The first match was very demoralizing, it was not a result that we expect, the result was shocking to Nigerians, especially the players they were not happy with their performance but as true champions they put it behind them, went into the second match against Zambia who had beaten Equatorial Guinea by five goals to nothing and repaired the damage which has now boast their confidence.” Falode who has been with the girls since their arrival to Ghana confirmed that bonuses and allowances have been paid to the players by the Nigeria Football Federation and expressed believe in the Falcons for more positive results. “We believe in the Super Falcons to get us results, we know they are not only strong mentally but strong as individuals and even stronger as a unit. We are on the right track, the girls are well motivated, they are concentrating, they have been given everything they need to perform and excel, bonuses and allowances have been paid and is up to them to do the job and make Nigeria proud. Our next game against Equatorial Guinea is as important as was the game against the Shepolopolo and the game against the Bayana Bayana until we take the Cup back to Nigeria and also get the ticket for France.” The Chairperson of Nigerian Women Football League hinted that the domestic league remains the engine room for the national team while expressing joy for Rasheedat Ajibade of FC Robo Queens and Amarachi Grace Okoronkwo of Nasarawa Amazons who both got a goal each for the Super Falcons on Wednesday. “The league is the strong engine room of any National team, whether male or female, out of 21 players in the Falcons we have six players from the league. I thought there should have been more players, the players from the league have given a good account of themselves, they have tried to make the league very competitive, we have tried to make the league an engine for the National team. The technical department of NFF have to be encouraged to do more by visiting the league venues when the league is in session and also getting a scout even within the technical department to source for players that can begin to represent us well in the National teams. If you look at the teams competiting in this African Women Cup of Nations, most of their players are from the domestic league. ” I think the dependant on foreign players must be reevaluate and we begin to look at our reservoir of players in our domestic league to give us quality representation because honestly we will be doing our young players diservice at home if we do not give them this platform and opportunity to express themselves and also get the global attention to improve on their career. I think with the quality we have here representing, I can proudly say as the chairperson of the Nigeria Women Football League on behalf of the NWFL board that we have done excellently and that the league is improving and we can improve them more by giving them the platform and opportunity to compete on the continent in competitions like this.” Super Falcons of will tomorrow lock horns against familiar foe Equatorial Guinea at the Cape Coast Stadium 4pm GMT/ 5pm Nigeria time sports journalists from Nigeria during which she posited that the first match demoralizing but the girls were able to pick themselves up and repair the damage in the second leg against Zambia.
