USD is not a Laboratory for Obnoxious Political Experiments – Ekong

…Uyo Wards 2 & 3 reaffirm support for Udom, OBA

Promise Etim, Uyo

In the light of recent political developments in the state, stakeholders of Uyo Local Government Area have warned political jobbers to desist from using Uyo LGA to negotiate for their personal interest, against the collective will of the people as the 2019 polls close in.

Stakeholders made this position known during the Senatorial Campaign rally of Obong Bassey Albert, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), held at Christ The King Primary School, Uyo, Saturday.

Conveying the message, a former Chairman of Council and chieftain of the PDP, Rt. Hon. Justin Ekong, said stakeholders of the party had individually and collectively reviewed political events in the State, particularly as concerning the build up to the 2019 elections.

Ekong said it has become imperative for Uyo people to make bold statements as regards the forthcoming elections in order to avert looming calamity that is in the offing if the Governor Udom Emmanuel fails to secure a second term in office, and the the potential impact on the people of the Senatorial District, who he said are primed to take their turn in 2023, given the power rotation policy in the state.

“Uyo Senatorial District cannot be used as a practical ground for obnoxious political experiments. The surest way for us to take back power in 2023 is to return Udom Emmanuel. We have resolved to take a clear position on the 2019 polls, and that is to return Udom Emmanuel”, he said.

On grassroots mobilization of the people and acceptability of the PDP in the area, Chairman of Uyo LG Council and DG of Senator Albert’s Akwa Ubok Abasi Campaign Organization, Elder Imoh Okon, said non indigenous groups in the area (Arewa, Igbo, Yoruba and other groups), have unanimously decided to stand with and for the PDP as a result of developments they have witnessed through the Governor Udom Emmanuel led administration in the state, with priority on security, peace, industrialization and progress.

Corroborating the position of the Chairman, leader of Arewa Women, Ule Thomson Bassey, said the various ethnic nationalities, decided to rally support for the PDP, as a reward for the sustainable peace and progress they have witnessed since the inception of the Udom administration in 2015.

“We will support all candidates of the PDP in the 2019 polls, if not for anything for making us feel safe in this state and carrying non indigenes along in their programs and policies. The leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel has sustained peace in Akwa Ibom and this has ensured we go about our businesses without fear”, she added.

At a similar rally held at Oku Group School, the candidates of the party were presented to the people, with a renewed pledge of empowerment and accelerated growth of Uyo people.

Accepting the endorsement, Senator Bassey Albert, appreciated Uyo people for what he described as ‘immeasurable show of love and support to the PDP’.

“I am grateful to Uyo people. The entire PDP family is happy with the support we are enjoying from Uyo people. Uyo is made of delectable politicians of huge value, that’s why when I made my choice of DG, I had to look for someone from Uyo. I don’t owe you anything else, than to be loyal to Uyo people”.

“Politics is about interest, I am propagating the interest of Uyo people, which is Governor Udom Emmanuel’s reelection in 2019, so Uyo can take its rightful turn in 2023”, he added.

Addressing supporters, standard bearer of the PDP for Uyo State Constituency, Hon. Anietie Eka, promised to push for strong partnership with leaders at various levels to ensure Uyo is given its place of priority as capital of the State.
